How to Find the Key of a Song
Identifying the key of a song is one of the most useful skills for any musician. It lets you transpose songs into a comfortable range, find compatible chords for improvisation, and understand the harmonic structure of the music you love.
To use this tool, click the notes that appear in your melody or chord progression. The tool compares your selection against all major key signatures and shows the best matches. For example, if you select C, G, and Am, the tool will suggest C major (and its relative minor, A minor) since those notes are diatonic to that key.
Understanding the Results
The tool shows all keys whose complete note set contains your selected notes. Each result includes the matching major key and its relative minor. If multiple keys match, your progression is harmonically ambiguous — try adding more notes from your song to narrow it down.
